Our Mental Health Practice

I have been providing mental health services to children, adolescents, and families since 2007.  I have a Bachelors in Social Work from Meredith College which I received in 2007. I have a Masters of Arts degree, with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina Central University, which I received in 2015. I am also a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of North Carolina( 11870), and am a National Certified Counselor (632727). I have provided mental health services in multiple settings, including Day Treatment services, Intensive In-Home services, and Outpatient Therapy services. I enjoy working with children of all ages. Throughout my years providing treatment to children, I have hadexperience working with diagnoses such as, anxiety disorders, ADHD,  Oppositional-Defiant Disorder, social skills deficits, adjustment disorders, and depression. While working with children and adolescents, I recognize the family system is the foundation for success, therefore in my practice, parenting skills and relationship building strategies are also provided. I also enjoys working with adults struggling with anxiety and depression. In my practice, I will primarily utilize play therapy techniques and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy modalities to assist my clients in meeting their goals for treatment.

Young Children

Sometimes, children experience problems in their social, emotional, or behavioral wellness. We believe that children learn and express themselves best through the act of play. During therapy sessions, child-directed and therapist-directed play therapy techniques will be utilized to assist your child in expressing and understanding their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Some issues that can be addressed in therapy include anxiety, emotional disturbances, family conflict, self-esteem, ADHD symptoms, behavioral issues, life transitions, oppositional-defiance, peer relationships, and school issues.

Older Children and Adolescents

At times, older children and adolescents struggle during this transitional period in life. the transition from childhood to adulthood can be a confusing time. During therapy session play therapy techniques and Cognitive-Behavioral therapy will be utilized to assist your child or adolescent in understanding their thoughts, feelings, and the effects on behaviors. Some issues that can be addressed in therapy include anxiety, depression, self-esteem/positive self-concept, coping skills, emotional disturbance, family conflict, mood disorders, ADHD symptoms, behavioral issues, life transitions, oppositional-defiance, peer relationships, school issues, and stress management,

Therapy is a collaborative effort with you and the therapist, addressing life's challenges. During the therapeutic process, Cognitive-Behavioral therapy techniques will be utilized to assist you in identifying and challenging negative thinking patterns that increase distressing emotions and maladaptive behaviors. Some issues addressed in therapy incl;ude anxiety, depression, copingskills, emotional disturbances, family conflict, parenting skills, self-esteem/positive self-concept, mood disorders, life transitions, relationship issues, problem-solving/decision making, and stress management.

Family Therapy

Are you a part of a "dysfunctional family"?  Most of us are! Often times, the people that we love the most, can be the hardest to get along with. Your family and the therapist will work collaboratively to develop a healthier family system. Some issues addressed include, conflict resolution, relationship building, familial roles, behavioral modification, and communications skills.
